This post starts the discussion of how Bailey’s Group Six Integrated Personalities begin to enter a crisis that leads them to either become more entrenched in the separative and selfish nature of the personality, or leads them to question if they should break free from the personality’s grip. 

2nd Subplane Astral


In this chapter we will continue with Group Six looking this time at how it fits with the 2nd Subplane of the Emotional Plane, which I have given the color of Orange. Please keep in mind that all my associations with the subplanes are my hypotheses based upon my understanding of Bailey. They are not something Bailey herself put forward. As we move to Orange and the 2nd subplane of the Emotional Plane we see many of the same associations from the previous level such as the Integrated Personality, the Knowledge/Sacrifice petal of the Egoic Lotus, and Aryan consciousness. We also see that the Technique of Integration phase of Integration continues to take place as well. Because I have already talked about these associations in the previous chapter, I will not comment on them here.

GROUP SIX — 2nd Subplane

In the last chapter on Pumpkin, I shared how Group Six has increased their capacity to use their minds. The increased use of mind and the integration of their personalities allows Group Six members to become increasingly influential throughout our world. As the intelligentsia, or intellectual elite, they tend to gravitate to places where their minds can remain stimulated and their influence can be felt such as within universities, corporations, media outlets, and medical, financial, technological, political fields. Though they may be powerful behind the scenes and within their inner circles of influence, many of them struggle, however, with larger society as a whole (Groups Three, Four, Five). For the most part the masses don’t trust those in Group Six. They are viewed too much as intellectual snobs. In return, Group Six members frequently look down on the masses (Groups Three, Four, Five) viewing them as beneath them or seeing them as “deplorables.” Which leads me to my hypothesis about Group Six at this level, where I am theorizing that the struggle with the masses begins. As we shall see I believe Group Six members will either try to manage the masses, or actively suppress the masses, or make a breakthrough and learn to more humanely embrace them.

Becoming Magnetic to the Masses

Group Six members at this level I believe are discovering not only the power of ideas, but the power of attraction and magnetism, especially in regards to others. (Note: In Bailey’s model the 2nd subplane is associated with the 2nd Ray energy of love, which is magnetic and attractive in nature, which I one reason I have made this association). Whether it is about attracting others to your ideas, looks, personality, business, or brand those in Group Six are learning that once you understand the power of attraction, or the nature of desire itself (in regards to what makes something or someone desirable), you can greatly expand your  power, influence, and ability to get your desires met.

This attractive and magnetic power, however, can be a double-edged sword. Group Six members have worked hard to become individuals who can stand apart from the crowd. They relish the fact that their increased power and wealth has given them their independence and the freedom to do whatever they want. Staying away from the masses can help them maintain this independence and freedom since a public who doesn’t know what they are up to can’t question what they do. Still the public may find out. Group Six people may actually allow the public in to some extent in the hopes of influencing the public to give them more money, pleasure, and power. Or, Group Six members may have been “outed” into the public spotlight, usually by other Group Six members who want to expose them to public scrutiny or even humiliation. Finally, the public may have become naturally curious about them and starts to encroach upon their space to learn more about who they really are and how they really live. Whatever the reason, as Group Six members are confronted more and more by the public’s interest, needs, or demands they have to figure out how to manage the public who has now been magnetized to them.

Coping With the Public

This shift into public awareness demands new skills from Group Six members. On one hand they may enjoy their increased appeal to others especially if the appeal to the public is viewed as useful to them. On the other hand, they may resent the public attention and intrusion. After all Group Six members have worked hard to become independent. Though they have people in their lives they want to feel free to be with people or not as they choose. Typically apart from close family, the people around them are usually “paid for” such as those who are employees of their companies, clean their homes, take care of their yards, manage their financial portfolios, raise their children and so forth. For this reason, the temptation to turn people into possessions you keep around or dispose of at your leisure is always present. Even family members may be treated in a disposable manner by cutting them off if they do not do what you want them to do. Even “love” may be commodified and purchased in the way of securing the attention, sexual favors, respect, and loyalty of people around you. So long as everyone around you is willing to be purchased, duped, or remain submissive to Group Six’s demands and desires everything may go well. But, what happens if they don’t?

This question of how people around them might start to expect something than Group Six people feel they are entitled to can give Group Six people anxiety? What if those people want more money, time, attention, and love than Group Six members want to give them? What if those people decide to stop ignoring Group Six members’ faults and no longer want to tolerate their extravagant lifestyles?  What if those people are no longer willing to settle for lifestyles that leave them so stressed out, deprived of time to spend on themselves and their loved ones, prone to ill health, and living in less ideal circumstances? What if those people no longer want to go to war, or send their children to war, to possibly get injured or even die? Worse, what if they wake up and don’t want to play by the arbitrary norms and rules that Group Six people have laid down for them, but frequently don’t follow themselves? What if, they rebel?

Slowly, it dawns on Group Six people that just like with the laws of gravity “what goes up, must come down.” If they don’t find new ways to manage the public, then Group Six members may be headed for the “down” side, something they truly dread. What does down look like for them? Down means a loss of their ability to fulfill their every desire. Down means a loss of income, reputation, and losing their attractive appeal. Down means losing their freedom and their entitled attitudes. Who has the most power to bring Group Six members down? On the highest and most spiritual level, it is the Soul that will eventually cause this seeming fall. But, because Group Six members tend to be agnostic or atheistic, and only see what their senses reveal to them, all they can see are those people, the masses, who may become a threat. There has to be a way then to keep those people under control and to prevent them from bringing Group Six members down. Finding that way is something Group Six members set out to discover and then do.

Managing the Public’s Perceptions

Once upon a time Group Six people could prevent the public from seeing what they were really doing and really like. Locked into their gated communities and living within the confines of their exclusive restaurants, resorts, clubs, or universities those people never bothered them. But, now that dealing with the public is becoming more necessary, one of the first strategies for dealing with the public is typically through “public relations.” Actually, the phrase “public relations” is an odd one because most Group Six people are not that interested in relating to the public. What they really want to do is manage and even manipulate them. Maybe the phrases  public management or even public manipulation then would be more honest.

Usually these public management or manipulation campaigns are carefully thought out often involving strategically crafted photo ops and media clips trying to cast Group Six members in the best light. Of course, a lot of what Group Six members are up to, doesn’t look so good. Remember Group Four and Five types tend to believe in ethics, morality, and religion. They want to believe Group Six members do too. Since most Group Six people are actually agnostic, secular or even atheistic they tend to bend and break the rules and ethical norms whenever they want to. After all religion is “an opiate of the masses” and most ethics, morality and religion they believe are just made up. Though at this stage some Group Six people may have an inherent sense of ethics, most live by the ethic of “just be sure you don’t get caught” if you are engaging in a behavior that the public may perceive as immoral or harming others. That is what their public management and manipulation campaigns are mostly about.

Attempting to look moral, ethical, and religious for the sake of appearances when they are really not means many Group Six members are frequently engaging in  pretense, lies, and hypocrisy.  Trying to keep the public from seeing the pretense, lies, and hypocrisy can be stressful and exhausting. If Group Six members are at all sensitive the pretense, lies, and hypocrisy will eventually chip away at the very happiness Group Six members think they have gained through the wealth, power, and adulation they have gained. Once again cognitive dissonance can emerge. Only this time instead of punishing themselves for not following the ethics, rules, and norms they pretended to abide to in the manner Group Five does, Group Six members may use their growing intellectual capacity to make their pretense, lies, hypocrisy and harmful behaviors appear justifable, logical, rational, and even reasonable. Frequently they do this by twisting the truth and blaming others. Still, deep down all this denial, blame, and possibly even abuse makes them not feel “quite right.” The result? More fear, anxiety, inner angst, and even paranoia than they had before. Now what? As we shall see the choice that is made here will have significant consequences for a very long time to come.

The first choice Group Six people can make if managing and manipulating the public are not working well enough, and fear or paranoia is taking them over, is potentially harmful not only to themselves, but to the people around them as a whole. Remember Group Six people are primarily separative and selfish. Almost all of them at some level strive to be on top. Compromise, altruism, thinking of others have long been tossed aside as impediments to their having everything they want. At this point Group Six people may decide if you can’t magnetize people to you through your charm and and manipulation then perhaps another approach is needed threaten, bully, crush, remove or destroy them instead. In the realm of politics this manifests as dictatorship, though dictators can be found in any field including within the entertainment industry, as CEO’s of companies, as financial advisers, scientists, academicians, or even spiritual leaders to name a few.

For a time Group Six members get away with their authoritarian behaviors. But, the stress of trying to stay on top and the hatred, fear, and animosity they generate now from others can impact them in negative ways. The very intelligence that once helped them get to the top, may shut down blocking out their ability to come with fresh creative insights in regards to solving their problems. Their reputations may be damaged next as their intellectual and creative abilities go into a decline. As they become increasingly dangerous and imbalanced the masses who switch their love of them to hate. Desperate to manage public opinion they may resort to tactics many dictators use of stirring up fake conflicts to make people afraid and want to stand behind, instead of defy, them. An example of this is targeting groups of people to hate and then getting people  to persecute or go to war with them. Once at war the Group Six leader can position him or herself as the hero or heroine launching them back into mythological status and getting the public to love them once more.

As for other Group Six fellow members? They are not so likely to be duped and misled as those in Groups Five, Four, and Three. They gave up the idea of being “sheeples” blindly following others a long time ago. With other Group Six members then power struggles typically begin in a growing effort to degrade, humiliate, and abuse one another. As this happens Group Six people find fewer people they can really count on and trust, increasing their loneliness and paranoia. Frequently, Group Six people now feel anxious, unsafe, and insecure. If this persists, eventually their health may start to go. Now, their worst fears, of losing everything — even their very lives emerges. In a weird kind of way then, they go through a “reverse” hierarchy of Maslow’s needs. Having refused to go beyond actualizing only the “self” as an Integrated Personality, their hierarchy of needs then, literally implodes as they lose self esteem, love and belongingness, safety and security, and even their physiological needs as well.

Regarding the above, to let you know, originally I saw this process taking place mostly on the 1st subplane of the Emotional Plane (Dandelion) and had even put this section in that chapter. I still believe the process escalates there, but for the most part I believe the choice for love or hate happens here. That means we will revisit the more serious consequences of this choice again in the next chapter. For now simply understand that I see the process beginning here, and completing itself elsewhere.
